Completed Project! OOAK Bloom Doll

Woo! She looks great, the photos don’t do her any justice. I worked for quite awhile to get her just right. Her costume is sewn by hand and from scratch, from a pattern of my own design. I used Swarovski Elements and crystals to accent her costume, including the large crystal heart at her breast. Her face and makeup are custom-finished, and all of her accessories have been painted to match. Even her shoes! Her wings were originally going to be of my own design, but I popped the Speedix pack on her to see how she looked, and I loved it just like that. She has a stand, though it isn’t made for her. It just happened to be the only stand I had on hand at the time. I’m considering selling her… But I’m so attached!

Custom Winx Doll!

One of the gifts I got for Christmas were a pair of Bloom dolls for my collection. I’m going to use one of them (as they’re both ‘street clothes’ models) to make a custom doll with a custom dress, wings, and everything else. I’m so stoked to start this project! Updates will be posted as it happens. Last time I was at Toys R’ Us I also noticed that they had a new Bloom fairy model, ‘Harmonix”. Her dress construction is similar to what I had in mind for my custom one, with the long train in the back. We’ll see what happens!

I broke the Golden Rule.

bloom-believix-the-winx-club-18443044-587-760Since I bought the limited edition Bloom doll, I knew I wouldn’t take her out of her box. Some things I do, and some things I don’t! …Actually, most things I take out of the box. I’m a toy collector, and I understand the value things gain when they stay mint in their boxes… But I really enjoy playing with my collection, too. I’m a child at heart. So, I bought the regular edition of the doll, sold at Toys R Us. I think you can buy it anywhere, though. It was BOGO 50% off, so I also bought another Bloom doll in her original Charmix outfit, with her original wings. I’m considering collecting just Bloom’s forms, really. It’s interesting to see how they’ve varied over the years.

51esVQprj+L._SL500_AA300_The doll is larger than it looks in the package. Her joints are all poseable, which seems to be the new trend in dolls, these days. Having owned ball joint dolls for many years, it’s nice to see that dolls for all ages have started to offer the same features. Her wings are very large and also removable. They can be traded with the other dolls, too. I was thinking about getting a plain Bloom doll and the Speedix accessory pack and doing a custom, one of a kind set. I’d probably make her outfit by hand, it’s so small… Maybe. MAYBE.

The Charmix doll doesn’t come with the added heart at the chest and the waist, but that came later in the season, anyway… I was impressed with her detailing, and her wings are really nice. Like her Believix counterpart, they are also removable. I was also impressed with the quality of their hair. They both stand the same height, but the Believix model was far more detailed. Either way, I’m already enjoying them both… Out of their boxes. That’s right! Tore them suckers open.

There are three versions of the blue Bloom doll I purchased for my birthday (I sort of spoiled myself this month, I suppose…). The gold one is my very favorite–but it’s also the most expensive. For the price people ask for it, it might as well be made of gold. These, the gold version, can sell upwards of one-thousand dollars.

winx_club_SDCC_bloom_silver_COMBOThe silver version is also a favorite. This one usually runs about three to five hundred. Alas! But they only made so many of these. Even the blue one is limited edition, of course, but the gold had a run of 210 and the silver 510. Hn.

Happy Birthday to Me!

I’ve been trying to find this doll for about four months or so, and of course I couldn’t find it. I snagged the very last one off Amazon today (sorry, guys!) for a reasonable price–about $40.00 less than what eBay auctions are asking for it. This is just one of those things I never grew out of. I still watch it–even the updated episodes! /nerd
