The Gatekeeper – Back at it.
I do my best writing in the fall and winter, when my seasonal depression kicks in and fuels my darker (and more angsty) stories. I’ve been writing a trilogy for… I don’t know, the past… eleven years or so. You know that phrase, “If you don’t write it, it won’t get published?”. Blargh. I keep rewriting. Regardless, I had an artist that was doing the image plates for me. Cover, and chapter by chapter. But that was years ago, and though I paid her we’ve lost contact. I’m seeking out artists to do this for me. Please shoot me a message (just reply) and we’ll get into contact. I don’t think that I intend to ever publish this book on paper, but I do intend to finish it up and make it into an e-book that can be downloaded and read via the internet, Kindle, Nook, etc. The reason I don’t intend to publish it is over controversial material inside it’s pages. It didn’t start that way, but the story will tell itself the way it wants. I will be opening a small page shortly that will allow excerpts to be read, art to be viewed, and so on. I have a collection of art that I’ve done over the years, as well as that of other artists, for my book, specifically. I also have a handful of art that I’ve collected across the internet that’s relative to my work.
Toy Fair 2013
I would like to announce that I went myself! But alas, I did not. However, thanks to the internet, I got a sneak peek just like you can. Follow the link below! There are updates about new Monster High dolls, My Little Pony, Transformers and more, not limited to Square Enix and Assassin’s Creed figures and accessories to be released this year. There’s also headlines about the new Skylanders game coming out this fall, ‘Swap Force’, where one can change the pieces of their figure and alter the avatar in game.
I’m not really one for dolls that build off another empire. These have been recently released, and when I did find them in the store my immediate reaction was, ew, Monster High ripoff. But… I want a viking doll for my collection! Siiiiiiigh.
Check out the new hairdoos for this coming year. Looks like there will be lots of curls and fluff!
Etrian Odyssey
This much-awaited RPG was released today for the 3DS! I’m stoked about it. I preordered it at Gamestop, and the first run comes with the soundtrack and a small art-book.
Current Project: Red
I’ve been looking for Scarlet Riding Hood everywhere, but I didn’t want to pay so much for her on e-bay. I finally found her tucked way back on a bottom shelf at K-mart, and I snatched her up–even though they charge more than anyone else. I’ve begun work on her shoes so far, and I will be painting them to resemble red converse, perhaps with glitter on the toes. I’m also going to alter her dress, and make her a proper cape.
The stitches will be the toughest part, I think.
I’d like to do the cape something like this. Her head is pretty big, so we’ll see how it goes. For the dress, I think I’m just going to add a few layers of lace and tulle, and perhaps some ribbon.
The Good, The Bad, and The Lonely
The good! You know that feeling when you burn your finger on the stove, and you go, crap, hothothothothot.
The ball joint dolls that I own are made by the company Luts, and I’m rather partial to their detailing. Blythe and Pullip have a different sort of appeal for me, in that they’re crafted to be ‘super-deformed’ fashion dolls. The good part is, I’ve fallen in love with Pullip’s little brother Isul, and his various incarnations.
But, just like my regular BJD collection, it’s an expensive hobby. Full sets, meaning doll and outfit, new in box, runs about $150-200 for the nicer models. You can find an occasional few for $90, or the mini versions (that I’m not terribly fond of) for about $40.
Toy collecting in general is so expensive on many levels. Occasionally, I feel the need to sell off a few of my collectables to afford the ‘greater good’. In this case… It’s obvious what I’m staring down My Little Ponies for.
The bad? My headset broke, so I bought a new one. I spent $100 to get a wireless headset that I could rely on for many years and not have to worry about, and it broke three days in. RETURN.
Lonely? Actually, I’m not. But I will be. I’m moving back to Florida after all to take care of my mom. On one hand I’m looking forward to it, and on the other, I’m not. It’s a tough situation.
And don’t get me wrong. I’m just as in love with Pullip on her own, too. Particularly this model, Pere Noel.
“Where Have You Been?”
Oh nowhere–just to the Philadelphia Lindsey Sterling concert! I’ve been stoked to go for months, and even though I stood outside for three hours to get in, it was totally worth it because I got front-row center balcony seats! I took my new camera that I got for Christmas, and it took the best shots, even in the dark. It wasn’t until the end of the concert that I realized just how close I could get on her, or I would have taken more close-up shots the whole time!
Please don’t steal my pictures of her! I’ll know >:C. It was an excellent show, and one of the most awesome experiences of my life. And yes, she played the Legend of Zelda Medley!
Taking Flight
I’m off! I’ll be back and posting in just over week. I’m interested to see what sort of toys and things I’ll pick up while visiting my parents in Florida!
Ice and Snow
I’m ready for spring, please! I’ve already slipped in the snow (twice). I don’t do so well in the cold to begin with, and there has been snow and ice on the ground for days and days. Winter is so bleak and cold, and it eats at my seasonal depression. Lame! I’m from Florida, and my blood is thin and unprepared for this weather! Also, please ignore the holiday banner above. I liked the picture, so… It works!

Resolutions can be tough to follow. It isn’t the end of the world if you neglect what you intend to do, but do your best with the follow-through. My resolution for the year to so stop being so easily stepped on. …And maybe get a few more toys for my collection. Happy New Year, everyone!
